Comment: On the most recent update from 21.0 to 24.0 the ASME stamp for Valves was removed and is one of the more common categories that falls within ASME certifications. The only current stamps are boiler specific which this section should not do, adding variety allows students to understand that ASME is not only for boilers but many other applications as well. Whereas ABSA is boiler specific being the Alberta boiler safety association that is found on page 6.

Comment: I don't have the latest version of this module (8.3) so maybe this has already been fixed. On pages 2 and 10 it states the threshold temperature for brazing is 575C (1000F). This contradicts American Welding Society (AWS) standards which state the threshold is 450C (840F). I suggest the module be updated to match AWS.

Comment: Question Two in Objective Two Activity asks: "What are the three elements of fire often present in the workplace?" In reference to page 14 in the same ILM, Figure 2 states "Air, Ignition (Heat), and Fuel" as part of the fire triangle, with a representation of oxygen molecules. Suggested correction should be in two places: page 14, Figure 2 ("air" should be changed to "oxygen"); and the answer on for Question Two (above) should be changed to align with that. The rationale for this change is that "oxygen" is more correct than simply "air", and that "oxygen" is better aligned with other industry training, including ACSA's CSTS 2020 (see Module 9: Emergency Response Plan).

Comment: Question One in Objective Four Activity asks: "What are the first aid requirements for low hazard work at a close work site with five to nine workers at the work site per shift?" The term "emergency first aider" has been repealed (OHS Code p1-7 - “emergency first aider” repealed AR 242/2022 s2) and has been replaced with "basic first aider", and "standard first aider" has been replaced with "intermediate first aider" (these changes took effect in March of 2023). Table 5 for "First aid requirements for low hazard work" should be updated to match the current OHS Code (Table lives on page 30 in ILM) and question one answer should be changed to: "1 Basic First Aider, 1 Type 2 Basic Small First Aid Kit" to align with Table 5.

Comment: Objective Six Activity, Question 1 - Question is not a good reflection of the content as it only references the OEL Table 1 from "Schedule 3 - Noise" in OHS Code. On page 42 in ILM directly below Figure 11 is a paragraph that states: "Hearing protectors reduce noise exposures to ambient levels or below 85 decibels but not below 70 decibels. When sound levels are above 105 decibels, workers must wear both earplugs and earmuffs. Hearing protectors must meet the requirements of CSA Standard Z94.2: Hearing Protection Devices - Performance, Selection, Care and Use. A clear, visible warning sign must be in workplace areas where noise levels are greater than 85 decibels." Suggested replacement and additional questions below: At what decibel level are both earplugs and earmuffs required? (105 dBA) Where continuous noise levels are generated, at what decibel level are employers required to have clear and visible warning signs? (85 dBA)

Comment: The BEDMAS example problem lists the solution as 24. The solution is 28. The error is the 3rd from last line: (9+20) - (3+2) = The previous line is: 9+20-3+2= Adding in the brackets to make -(3+2) is the error. 29 - 3 + 2 should be simplified to 29-1. It could also be thought of as 9 + 20 + (-3) + 2 The two is positive but when you put it in a bracket with - (3+2) you have effectively changed +2 to -2

Comment: There are a number of issues with the 'Mercury Readings' on page 33 of ILM 210105f24, in particular with the inches of mercury. To support my position, see the conversion table on this page of the engineering toolbox website: https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/vacuum-converter-d_460.html Notice there are 2 columns of inches of mercury ("Hg): one is 'Inches Mercury Absolute' and the other is 'Inches Mercury Guage'. The "Hg shown on most Compound gauges, a standard gauge in our trade on steam boilers, is "Hg gauge (not absolute). The "Hg gauge scale is AKA "Hg vacuum, as shown on the face of many Compound gauges. On ILM pg 33, just above 'Example Three', it states, 'To convert between psia and inches of mercury, either multiply or divide by 0.491 lb/in2'. This will convert psia to "Hg absolute only. Different formulas are used to convert to and from "Hg gauge/vacuum. If you want to convert psia to "Hg gauge, the formula is: 29.92 - (psia ÷ 0.491) If you want to convert "Hg gauge to psia, the formula is: (29.92 - "Hg gauge) x 0.491 I suggest the ILM text be adjusted to explain the 2 different "Hg scales, and to show examples of each. Example Three solution would look like: 29.92 - (13.5 psia ÷ 0.491) = 2.425 "Hg gauge Example Four solution would look like: (29.92 - 20 "Hg gauge) x 0.491 = 4.871 psia

The code states that riser clamps will be installed on every other floor, so there is not one required until the second story in a multi-story building. Comment: in this ILM it describes Ferrous pipe as any pipe containing iron ore and non ferrous pipe as having no iron. But in ILM 210103bA pg 41 it describes ferrous metals as having iron as its major ingredient and usually magnetic, while non ferrous may have iron but not in large enough amounts to have any major influence on its properties. one of these should be picked and the other ILM be adjusted so that there is no confusion. in one of the codes I believe its ASME where it states that it is considered to be ferrous pipe if there is an appreciable amount of iron it.

Comment: I don't have the latest version of this module (8.3) so maybe this has already been fixed. On pages 3 and 4 it states a distinction between "copper tube" and "copper tubing" but the explanation given contradicts IPT Pipe Trades page 97, and copper.org website, and ASTM standards. At the bottom of page IPT 97, it states the trade practice used to distinguish between tube and tubing "is not an official way to designate copper tube and should be avoided". IPT explains that they are both copper tube, and they make the distinction based on the standard that the tube was made to match, specifically sizing of ID vs OD. The IPT definition also matches copper.org website definition, which references ASTM specifications for the various copper tubes. With reference and in conformance to IPT, copper.org website, and ASTM standards, I suggest the wording in the module be changed to state the copper tube types K, L, M, and DWV are designated by ID size, whereas copper tube type ACR is designated by OD size and wall thickness. Eliminate the distinction between tube and tubing, and make the distinction based on copper type and sizing.
